Sunrise at Riverwalk

In Bradenton FL we have a riverwalk. Little did I know a lot of other cities do as well. Before I moved here I'd never heard of a riverwalk, but if you think about it it makes sense. Everyone likes to hang out by the water; run, walk or just chill. I come here a lot and this time to take pictures of the sunrise. I think I've taken pictures of the whole riverwalk length yet somehow I always seem to find something new. Regardless, its close to my home and if I ever get tired of this riverwalk there are others close by.

Sunrise Over Deerpark Heights

I took this back over a year ago in New Zealand. It was pretty frosty before the sun came up and so when it did we all started peeling off the layers. Nevertheless, getting here early was epic and this moment as the sun rose over the Remarkable mountain range epitomized the natural beauty of the area. Now, I just have to figure out when I'm going back.

Sunrise Over the Pond

The night before I took this I was at the same spot taking a picture of the sunset in the other direction. When I got home I realized I lost my lens cap. It's only a few minutes from my house so I got up this morning to come back figuring I dropped it on the ground. It was nowhere to be found but nevertheless the clouds were crazy good and so I resigned to the loss and captured this sunrise. After watching it for a few minutes I walked back to my car and put the camera and in the back seat and there was the lens cap on the floor. Such a silly thing, but thanks to

Morning Light in Tom Bennett Park

I'm posting this to remind myself to get outside after it stops raining. That's when we get great light and as everyone knows, photographers love unusual shades and hues of light. Right after a storm is one of those times. In any case, this was taken in the morning after an evening of rain and with any luck I'll get out again today or tomorrow morning for some similar shots. In the meantime, have a great day everyone.

Sunrise Under the Interstate

The interstate highway in Florida is long stretches of boring punctuated with brief glimpses of amazing. I75 is inland, protected from the hurricanes and marshes, but when it crosses waterway or rivers you get a quick glimpse of the landscape. This bridge stretches a mile over the Manatee River near my home and I managed to find a vantage to take this without walking through someone's backyard. Can you imagine waking up to this each morning?

Sunrise Over the Dunes

Early one morning on Anna Maria Island near the public pier. It's amazing how many people are up at dawn to watch the sunrise on a Sunday morning. And then ten minutes later they all leave to go back home for breakfast or whatever. Yet some stay around to linger and enjoy the relative solitude of an early morning walk along the beach. Note to self, I'm going to do that more often.

Sailboat Sunrise

The waterways around here are typically sheltered from the ocean by keys. Most people think Florida's keys are at the southern tip, such as Key West, but we have them up and down the west coast along the Gulf of Mexico. All manner of sail and power boats travel up and down, stopping in little towns along the way, there are restaurants and shops catering to these unique sailors. And because the water is calm you will always find boats docked here which can make for some nice pictures if you manage get up around sunrise.

Before Rush Hour

This is one of the many bridges in Manatee County here in central Florida. The river is about a half mile wide at this point so the bridge is good size. But growth in our area has this and a nearby bridge filled to capacity during rush hour. So now they are looking at building yet another, or possibly making this one bigger. I took this as early one morning when the only rush was of the water under the bridge.

Sunrise Over Bradenton

This morning I was in the process of traversing the county from the western edge along the beach to the eastern edge deep in the heart of farm country. As I left the beach I approached this bridge and decided to pull over, glad I did. This is the bridge that connects Anna Maria Island to Bradenton.

Sunrise Over Sedona

This is the sun rising over the red rock peaks of Sedona Arizona about a week ago. I stayed a couple of days here and did a little exploring, though the flu kept me stuck in my room most of the time. Even so I managed to get out and soak up a little of the good energy from the surrounding wilderness and awe-inspiring red rock mountains. January is a great time to be here, it was cool at night and comfortably warm during the day. I’ve passed through here years ago in August and I remember it quite a bit warmer. But regardless of the time of year Sedona is an amazing place to be.
