Rod and Reel Sunrise

At the very end of Anna Marie Island in Florida is the Rod and Reel. It’s a combination fishing pier, restaurant and Inn. Being at the very end of the island it’s off the beaten path and tends to be a favorite of the locals. I can honestly say that they have the best Grouper sandwich bar none. Whenever we have guest, this is probably our favorite spot for an authentic Florida Gulf Coast feel. Give it a try if your in the area, you won’t be disappointed.

Public Pier Walkway

On Anna Marie Island in Florida there is a public pier where you can fish, have a meal or just watch the dolphins and manatees as they frolic in the water. I arrived here at sunrise one morning only to find two other photographers with the same idea. Maybe it’s just me but I seem to be seeing a lot more photographers these days and they all seem to show up at the same spots. Or maybe I just never paid attention and they’ve always been there. Whatever the case, this turned out be be another morning in paradise and I am glad I was there to capture the moment.

Sunrise Under The Bridge

The hardest part about taking this photo was waking up before sunrise. However I’m glad I did even if I had to struggle to stay awake during meetings this day. This is the Ringling Bridge in Sarasota Florida and is always filled with joggers from before dawn until long after sunset due partly to it’s scenic setting and to the fact that it provides a bit of a hill, of which we have very few in this part Florida.

Cold Sunrise

On this cold and windy morning I found myself at a park waiting for sunrise. In general, we have warm weather most of the year here in Florida, but occasionally we disappoint. We think nothing of wearing polar fleece when it drops below room temperature. A few years back I happened to be in a hotel lobby on one of those days and overheard a family at the front desk asking the clerk for directions to the beach. I felt a little sorry for them, this was not a beach day. But, off they went, oblivious to the sixty degree weather.

Sunshine Skyway Bridge

I saw a picture by a local photographer of this bridge. Living in the county on the other side I racked my brain trying to figure out where it was taken. After a little checking I figured I had the spot so I headed out early one morning, Dunkin Donuts coffee in hand. Being my first photo trip I was a little apprehensive but nonetheless picked my way through the predawn to find the spot. I set up my tripod and waited in silence on the isolated shoreline off an isolated road. Just then lights and the sound of tires approached and I had no idea what to expect. Wouldn’t you know it, another photographer showed up, followed by two more after him. That’s when I realized this must be a popular spot and I was the new one to the party.
