Love Locks

Love locks on the Brooklyn Bridge. I wonder if the day will come when these have to be removed. As far as I can tell the bridge seems pretty sturdy and I don't think the extra weight even registers. Moving along, how cool would it be to leave a lock and then return several years later to see it again? A funny little quirk of how we roll. Sentimentality is a cool thing when it comes out like this me thinks.

Old Ships of New York

These old ships are docked at the South Street Seaport in lower Manhattan. There are not too many places you can see these but this is one of them. It reminded me of Boston harbor only this is New York. My guess is that a hundred years ago the scene wasn't much different. My how times have changed, ...except for here.

Friday at the Park

Another shot of of the sunset at Robert F. Wagner park in lower Manhattan. It was such an idyllic setting that I took a tonne of pictures from every angle. This was one of the last shots as the sun when down and right after this Scott and I turned around and grabbed a table at an Italian restaurant with this very same view.

Church of Times Square

This has got to be one of the funnest places to be on a Friday night. I took this around midnight and the amount of electricity and energy was amazing. Now looking back it struck me that there is a similarity in the composition to a church. I'm not making a statement, just an observation.

Wagner Park Sunset

This is just north of Battery Park and probably one of the best places in lower Manhattan to watch a sunset. There is a grass lawn, wide benches, and nice little Italian restaurant just below here where you can forget for a minute that you are in a big city. After my friend Scott and I finished taking pictures we had dinner here and then headed up to midtown to check that out as well. There just wasn't enough time in the day to do everything we wanted to do, but this was probably the highlight of what we did manage to see.

City Time

A million other versions of this exact same shot have been made. So when here recently I was glad to try my own. This futuristic setting is from Brooklyn near the ferry terminal, these are ancient pilings from some long forgotten pier or dock. A six second exposure makes the water look smooth as though maybe time has slowed down. A parallel universe in a city that never sleeps.

Wall Art

I passed this wall art in lower Manhattan and thought the shadows added a different dimension to the art. That's the thing about street art, the environment plays a role in the telling of the story. In this case, at least for me, the shadows and light transformed the art into something completely new. How cool is that?

Meditation in the Park

On a recent Saturday morning in lower Manhattan I noticed this gentleman meditating in a park. Boy, if I could meditate in the middle of a busy park in Manhattan, well, that would be something. Anyway, there was ancient Chinese music being played nearby, people singing, talking and all manner of activity and he was sitting there meditating right in the middle of it. I couldn't resist capturing a photo yet given everything else going on I doubt he even noticed.

South Street Seaport

If you work on lower Manhattan and live in Brooklyn, chances are you come here to catch a ferry. Such was the case on this Friday afternoon . The waters of these rivers move fast and these boats have a lot of power. It's amazing to see how they maneuver in and around the traffic from one side to the other. I stood here mesmerized by the scene for a few minutes before grabbing a cab for Battery Park to catch the sunset.
