Siesta Key

Siesta Key is a little village not far from where I live. Funny thing is I find the only time I go there is when guest come to town. In an effort to turn that around I headed there to shoot the sunset last week and I enjoyed it so much I’m planning on going back, hopefully before our next guests arrive.Siesta Key is a little village not far from where I live. Funny thing is I find the only time I go there is when guest come to town. Seems I take for granted what's in my backyard and only seem to enjoy it when I have to. Well, in an effort to turn that around I headed there to shoot the sunset last week. I enjoyed it so much I'm planning on going back, hopefully before our next guests arrive.

Tortouga Gazebo

I took this from Bradenton Beach about a day after the first named storm of the year. In Florida we have a semi-tropical climate and so our summer is almost like winter meaning we get a lot of storms. Of course, afterwards the clouds are awesome and everyone, and I mean everyone, is down by the beach at sunset taking photos and wishing it would never end.

Coquina Pier

This was taken atop what’s left of the Coquina Beach pier on Anna Marie Island, Florida. While the pier is slowly giving way to the elements, local fishermen and birds still use it daily. I love the blue green waters of the Gulf of Mexico, they’re always clear and inviting which explains why we have so many visitors to this area year round.

Van Wezel Stairs

These stairs are on the grounds of the Van Wezel Performing Arts center in Sarasota Florida. Actually, I couldn’t think of anything to write about these, I’m coming up blank. How’s this, …Often patrons walk these stairs dressed to the nines in anticipation of a great performance. Hmmm, well maybe I should just let it go. You can make up your own story, it’s probably much better than mine.

Trinity

This is the Trinity Episcopal Parish Church in St. Augustine, Florida. There are so many people that like to visit St. Augustine that I had to get up before dawn to capture a few shots without the tourists. In general, this little town of is a photographers paradise, an abundance of subjects in every direction.

Nokomis Lookout

This is the lifeguard lookout stand in Nokomis Florida. When I came upon this I noticed a gentleman sitting on the stairs in quiet contemplation. I'm pretty self conscious so I did my best not to make too much noise while taking this picture. The clicks on my camera can be a little annoying, so after I got the shot I quickly moved on to leave the soul in peace.

Magic Dusk

Minutes after a sunset are sometimes the best to enjoy; the light of dusk on an ocean shore on a warm day is simply exquisite. I think that if I didn’t have a real job, I might just spend every evening by the beach capturing sunsets at dusk. But for now, the occasional picture is enough to keep me happy. Happy Friday everyone and I hope this brings a touch of that magic to your day.

Nakomis Moonrise

I had just finished shooting the sunset here in Nakomis Florida and was packing up to head home. Fortunate for me I had my wife along who pointed out the moon shining from the opposite direction. Some days I just don’t know when to quit, but I suppose that’s not such a bad thing, at least as it pertains to photography.

Longboat North

This was taken at the northern tip of Longboat Key on central Florida’s west coast where people pause what they’re doing and come to watch the sun go down. Sometimes it’s fun just to watch people watching the sunset. If you look down the beach just as the sun hits the horizon, you can see hundreds of little flashes as people try to grab that perfect picture. Count me among them.
Because I procrastinate so much I usually arrive after the sun goes down, but on this day I made it on time and was rewarded. In this central part of Florida's west coast people come from all over to the beach to watch the sun go down. Sometimes it's fun just to watch people watching the sunset. I can be easily distracted.

TPA Sunset

When I fly back to Tampa from Vancouver this time of year we land around sunset. Aside from the occasional iPhone photo, by the time I get off the plane its usually too late to get a good shot. This day I got out of the terminal and headed straight to the top level of the parking garage to capture this picture. Oddly enough, I wasn’t the only one, a group of about eight people including a few children where there to watch the sunset as well. I remember the dad saying to his impatient son, “look while you can, you don’t see many sunsets it your life, this is one of the few”. I thought that was cool, but in a way kinda sad. I mean except for weather, every day we have sunsets, it’s just a matter of whether we choose to take the time to notice. This photo is all about that.
