Sagrada Familia Ceiling

The Sagrada Familia has been under construction for a hundred years and it is perhaps the most compelling example of design and architecture on the planet. This ceiling rises maybe two hundred feet from where I stood yet it’s impossible to convey the enormity of the interior. The detail in the craftsmanship and artistry overwhelms your sense to the point that you just have to stand in one spot, look in one direction and try to take it in. So this is one little corner as I stood staring straight up doing my best to take it in.

Sagrada Familia Light

I took this in Barcelona inside the Sagrada Familia. The light shining through the stained glass was nothing sort of amazing. Even though the cathedral was plenty crowded you could easily get lost in contemplation as though you were all alone.

In the morning I was at the other main cathedral in the Gothic quarter, but this Antoni Gaudi masterpiece transcends traditional concepts and takes architecture and design to a new level that is quite frankly beyond belief. Regardless of religious persuasion, this is worth seeing.

Barcelona

This is the gothic section of town with the Cathedral of Barcelona as the center piece. As I walked back to my hotel I couldn't help but notice this view. I suppose this scene sums up my impression of the city; that is, down every street there is something amazing to see. I think Barcelona is one of those cities where people want to live. It has so much to offer in terms of culture, history, architecture, sports, arts and weather that it would be very easy to just settle here and forget about the rest of the world. But if that's not your thing, there is a Starbucks just around the next corner. See what I mean?

La Grande-Motte

The town of La Grande-Motte sits along the Mediterranean. All of the buildings were designed by a single architect and convey harmony with the sea and mediterranean sensibilities. I walked around one morning just observing the architecture and sense of theme.

Casa Batlló Hallway

Yesterday I was inside Casa Batlló which is a home designed by Antoni Gaudi. It is a priceless example of design and architecture and has been designated a world heritage site by UNESCO. This is from one of the hallways on the top level. Every nook and cranny is a study in organic lines, ergonomic utility and otherworldly beauty. To someone such as myself who is inspired by design, this house is perhaps one of the most spell binding I have every laid eyes on.

Blood Moon Over the Gate

While in San Francisco I just "had" to "do the bridges". By that I mean, drive over and take pictures, ...just like everybody else. I went through the motions but I didn’t have my heart into it. I mean, it's only been done one-million-and-four-hundred-and-sixty-two-thousand-and-seven-hundred-and-ninety-two times (excluding Andriod devices). Not like it's popular or anything. Even when I showed up at 5AM on a MONDAY MORNING there were three other photographers there. I mean, don't these people have anything better to do than get up early on a MONDAY morning and take yet another picture of the bridge? Good grief, some people. Anyway, I stuck around looking for a unique angle that hadn't been done before, how hard could that be? Those other pesky photographers finally left and I was about also when I looked back and noticed that the Blood moon had popped up over the bridge. How lucky is that? I quickly took my shot and I think I may be the only person in the world to have a shot of the Blood Moon over the Golden Gate. I’m currently in negotiations with Hogwarts to have this hung in the grand hall, but I wanted you all to be the first to see it.

Under the San Francisco Bay Bridge

This weekend I'm in San Francisco for a photowalk with Trey Ratcliff and a bunch of friends from The Arcanum. Several hundred showed up, some as far away as Scotland and Australia which made my commute from Florida seem trivial. We walked along the Embarcadero and as we got closer to the Bay Bridge quite a few of us lingered here as we became fixated on the bridge. As you may already know I love to shoot bridges and this ranks up there among my favorite. In any case, the photowalk was a huge success and a great time was had by all including yours truly.

Brickell Key Miami

A birds-eye view of a little island in the middle of Miami. I took this from a hotel when I was down here recently. At night I sat in a lounge on the 36th floor and was surprised to find that most of these units were dark. I thought that was a little odd because as compared to other cities like New York or Vancouver. But then this is the middle of summer in Florida and I suppose most of these units are second homes or vacation getaways. Perhaps if I come back here in winter these will be all lit up like Christmas trees with escapees from colder climates.

Church of Times Square

This has got to be one of the funnest places to be on a Friday night. I took this around midnight and the amount of electricity and energy was amazing. Now looking back it struck me that there is a similarity in the composition to a church. I'm not making a statement, just an observation.
