Six O’Clock Train

If you like orange juice then this is your train, right from the Tropicana plant here in Bradenton Florida. I live just a few minutes from here and every evening I hear the sounding of the horn as the train heads north. Now, whenever I'm up north I have a habit of looking at the label on the OJ just to see where it says

I live just a few minutes from here and every evening I hear the sounding of the horn as the train heads north. Now, whenever I’m up north I have a habit of looking at the label on the OJ just to see where it says “Bradenton, FL”. I have no idea why I do that, but I do it just the same, home town pride perhaps. I took this earlier this evening as I walked my dogs near the tracks along the Bradenton Riverwalk.

St Petersburg Pier

By coming here at sunrise on a Sunday I managed to have the whole place to myself, which is quite a feat when you consider how popular this pier is. I think I was only here for twenty or thirty minutes and it started filling up with runners and such, but that was fine, I got what I came for.

Alps of Middle Earth

Over the weekend I went to see the final installment of the Hobbit movie. Having been to New Zealand this year I was interested in looking close at the scenery and indeed I did recognize a couple of shots. Of course much in the movie was rendered to look like no place on earth, but this shot I took hanging out of a helicopter comes close. I think I may have a Lord of the Rings Marathon this coming holiday week so that I can see more of the landscape of Middle Earth, otherwise known as New Zealand.

Slim Pickins

Downtown Hartford, CT at night reminds me of some midwest cities. Basically they roll the streets up at 5pm. So when I came downtown a couple of weeks ago it was good and bad. Good because I just about had the whole downtown core to myself, bad in that there were slim pickins as far as any activity goes. Nonetheless, I made the best of it had a pretty good time wandering about.

Jensen Beach

Seems I'm on a lifeguard stand theme. Whenever I show up they're deserted, don't suppose there's much need for lifeguards to be around at sunrise and sunset. This was at Jensen Beach on Florida's east coast. As I recall, I got up pretty early and it was only me and a few of those guys with metal detectors. I'm not sure why they are so dedicated to get out as early as they do. Do they really find enough to make it worth their while? I don't know, I'm just not feeling it.

Path to the Beach

Here's a lifeguard stand on Anna Maria Island in the town of Bradenton Beach. It was only a few months ago that I took this and my how time flies, it's now the holiday season. I think when I took this I didn't give it much thought, ho hum, another beach shot. As I write this I'm up north in the cold and now it looks really good, as in I can't wait to get home. That inside joke about white sand up here, I get it. Time to trade my boots for a pair of sandals and reacquaint my feet with the real thing.

Christmas Lights and Building

It's time for a few Christmas lights, which are everywhere. As I squint my eyes the lights of the trees blend with those of the building behind. I have to scratch that abstract itch every now and again. Now I feel much better, and I hope you do too.

River Valley, North Carolina

This is near Gorges State Park not far from Asheville. There was so much scenery I wanted to stop at every bend in the road and, left to my own whims, I'd probably still be there. The whole region is full of beauty and so collects a lot of artists as places like this do. You can't go more than a mile in any direction without passing some art gallery or artisan's studio. One day I will just have to spend a good amount of time amongst the hills and valleys like this. Then before you know it I'll be sporting a goatee and a French beret and talking like a real artist. In the meantime you'll find me at the local coffee shop, that's the best I can do for now.

Bendemeer Sunset

This is from Bendemeer which is a residential community just outside Queenstown New Zealand. I was just thinking how this looks just like my backyard, ...not! Well, in my dreams this is my backyard and so I go here from time to time in daydreams throughout the day when I should be doing something more productive. But what are we if not for our dreams. So here is a glimpse into my dreamscape, straight from the southern island of New Zealand. Good night and sweet dreams.

Coast of British Columbia

I couldn't get enough of the fog when I visited Ucluelet earlier in the year. However I doubt the mariners felt the same way, just makes everything more difficult all around. The fog horns, the buoy bells and what must be frayed nerves as the boats head to harbour. But I don't normally think about all that when I eat seafood. In any case, the cloak of mystery that is added to the landscape is unlike anything. It's no wonder they call it Super Natural British Columbia.
