Ledo Beach Afterglow

This was the scene a few hours ago at Ledo Beach in Sarasota Florida. After the sun went down it illuminated these clouds with a peachy yellow glow. It had the effect of a lantern, making everything brighter. A phenomenon I'd not seen before that lasted for about fifteen minutes. Anyway, I was fortunate to see it and have my camera ready. From what I could tell, the other people on the beach were just as amazed as I was.

Walk in the Park

Sarasota Island Park is one of my favorite places to go for local photography. Just before sunset the shadows play on the walkway, something I like to capture. I pick a spot and wait for someone to walk through the frame; a street photography trick. In this case, it's the curve of the sidewalk and the shadows that I look for, and lucky me I got the whole family, a three for one deal.

Shaded Bench

A bench in the shade outside the Ringling Museum in Sarasota Florida. I come here from time to time to take pictures of the manicured grounds. This was a particularly hot day and I thought this bench was well placed under the shade of a Banyan. There are a lot of trees here so it makes wandering the grounds a bit easier in summer. They also have ice cold lemonade at a snack bar under one of the largest Banyans in the region. Where would we be without Banyans.

Sarasota Public Library

The Sarasota Public Library is located in the center of town across from a park and surrounded by shops, theaters and restaurants. If you stop and take a look, the architecture is rather unique. Architecture aside, I wonder how many people still use the library in this age of instant electronic access. I guess I'll just have to go in and find out for myself one day.

Sarasota Island Park

An afternoon at Sarasota Island Park is a nice way to let the day wind down. Everyone is friendly and willing to stop and chat and say hello. Kind of unusual but I guess some places are like that. This afternoon there were photographers working on portraits with clients, people walking their dogs, sailors tending to their boats and others just sitting on a bench watching the sunset. Like I said, not a bad way to let the day wind down.

Sarasota Bay Fishing Pier

Last night I headed down to the fishing pier in Sarasota to catch the colors and take a few photos. As usual there were a lot of people fishing and as usual there was a lot of nice things to see. I shared a photo with some friends from my iPhone however one was in Japan, and so the same sun that was setting for me it was just rising for him. Small world, isn't it.

Ca’ d’ Zan

This was the house of John and Mable Ringling in Sarasota Florida. You'll remember the Ringlings from the Ringling Brothers Circus. It's now a state park along with gardens and museums. A great place to spend the day if you're ever in the area.

Benderson Park

In Sarasota we have a new world class rowing facility called Benderson Park. This is the far side one evening as I walked around it with my dogs. Right next to this scene is a sign warning of the local alligator that lives here. So, one eye in the viewfinder, one eye on the water, and desperately listening for any sounds as I snapped this and moved on. Sometime I just have to wonder about the things I do to get a good picture.
