Fishing Pier

This is one of the many fishing piers at Emerson Point State Park in Palmetto Florida. The water is crystal clear so it’s common to see the fish swim by. In any case, I’m no fisherman and so living here in Florida I’m like a fish out of water. Bad pun, I know. I’m one of the three people in Florida that doesn’t fish. Kinda like Facebook, until last year I wasn’t on Facebook, that changed however and now the only thing left for me to do is get a fishing pole. Ain’t gonna happen.

Pond at Dusk

This was taken at a pond at Emerson Point state park near my home. This and a couple of other nearby ponds are hangouts for migratory birds. I’m not a birder and I don’t know a lot about each species, but they’re still fun to watch in their natural habitat. There’s all kinds of wildlife in and around this pond, I’ve seen Raccoons, Armadillos, Turtles, Osprey and Eagles. So there you go, I’m no birder, but apparently I’m Daniel Boone.

Calm Waters

One evening not too long ago I was while riding a mountain bike through Emerson Point which a state park near my home. I stopped for a rest and noticed these colors and the calmness of the waters and felt I had to capture the moment with my iPhone. Perhaps one day I’ll try Google Glass as it seems I’m always looking for a shot even when I’m doing other things and Glass might just make it more convenient. Maybe we’ll all just end up with Glass implants in our retinas, I can see it going in that direction. In any case, when the water is this calm in Terra Ceia Bay you often see and hear fish jumping which momentarily creates rings in the water. I will leave you to contemplate the zen of that quite calm moment while I head to the mall for Black Friday Christmas shopping.

Hidden Beach

This was a recent sunset at Emerson Point in Manatee County, Florida. Emerson point is more about mangroves and wildlife than beaches. However, if you know where to look you can find a couple of secluded beaches like this one in and amongst the mangroves. The evening I shot this I had a couple of raccoons amble by. I think they were a little surprised since these little hideaways tend to be deserted, especially as the sun is going down. They decided to wait patiently from a few feet away as I took my pictures, probably wondering if I had any scraps of food to leave behind. The other thing I like about this spot is that we can bring our dogs here on a hot day. Most beach areas in Florida prohibit dogs, but since this isn’t strictly a beach, dogs are allowed and they love to wade in the shallow water to chase fish or just cool off.

Morning Walk

This is another shot of Emerson Point in Palmetto Florida. I love this place in the morning, it’s so quite and I’m likely to see Osprey, Eagles, Great Herons, any number of fish and a beautiful sunrise. The Parks department built these wooden walkways across the Mangroves to view the ecosystems at work up close. And when you’re done you can pickup a fresh Duncan Donuts coffee on your way home. Another morning in paradise, eh?
