False Creek

All of Vancouver is amazing, but especially the False Creek section. When I shot this the area was full of photographers and wedding parties. Kind of reminds me of Pelicans back home in Florida. Where there’s Pelicans, there’s fish, you can always tell. In Vancouver, where there’s photographers there’s really cool stuff to see. Okay, I know that’s a really lame analogy, but it’s true.

Sunrise Under The Bridge

The hardest part about taking this photo was waking up before sunrise. However I’m glad I did even if I had to struggle to stay awake during meetings this day. This is the Ringling Bridge in Sarasota Florida and is always filled with joggers from before dawn until long after sunset due partly to it’s scenic setting and to the fact that it provides a bit of a hill, of which we have very few in this part Florida.

Southside Sunset

Sometimes when I’m walking around looking for things to take photos of I can draw a blank. However when I looked up at this building in Vancouver the last rays of the day reflected off the face giving it this glow. By itself, the building is not that remarkable, but the sunset elevated it to the status of a photo opportunity. At least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

St. Pauls

This is St. Pauls hospital located along Burrard Street in Vancouver. I was intrigued by the old architecture with all the bricks in what is essentially a state of the art facility.

This is St. Pauls hospital located along Burrard Street in Vancouver. I liked the brick and older architecture because it contrasts with everything else. I think this works better in black and white, as it accentuates the lines and shape, which is what drew me to the building in the first place.

Gazebo

Recently I posted another shot of the beach from inside this Gazebo. The structure had just been built as part of the Tortuga Inn Beach Resort in Bradenton Beach, Florida. In any case I thought the design of it pretty cool, the kind of place I could see hosting a Florida wedding reception, complete with sunset and Jimmy Buffet music.

Mote Sunset

This is a shot of the sunset near the Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida. The Mote is a marine research facility in Sarasota Florida. They are generally making news regarding rescues of Manatee or other sea mammals as well as habitat and ecology of the seas. The evening I took this I saw a shark swim by and after I got over the shock I realized it probably wasn’t so unusual, the waters of the Gulf are teaming with all kinds of life and ecosystems. Lucky for us we have scientists and volunteers at the Mote dedicated to researching and preserving it.

Five Minute Break

I noticed this hotel worker while walking past the Sheraton in Vancouver. Despite being smack dab in the middle of a busy city he managed to find a quite place for a quick break. I don’t know why I was attracted to the scene but I think we all need to find that quite place from time to time, if even just for five minutes.

Not sure why, but I was impressed by the scene. Perhaps we all need to find that quite place from time to time, me included.

Vancouver Night

This is Vancouver as viewed from Portside Park. I got the idea for this shot from a small painting which hangs in the bathrooms at the Hilton hotel in Burnaby. I think it was painted from roughly the same location. The small park is wedged between the harbour and the rail yard and it took me a while to figure out how to get here on foot. Once I did, I found myself walking through a small field at night and ended up tripping in the dark. Fortunately I had the presence of mind to use my head to soften the blow to my heavy camera. A little scratched up but with camera intact, I managed to get this shot looking back on Vancouver at night.

Lost Lagoon 4

The reason I call this “4” is because I’ve taken three other shots from this same location. I try not to repeat myself, but on occasion I can’t help it. I took this night before last when walking back to my hotel through Stanley Park in Vancouver. The path was pretty much deserted, and I found out why after I setup, lots of mosquitos. In any case, this is a typical evening glow that residents of this city enjoy. No wonder everyone is so mellow here.

Urban Garden

In certain neighborhoods of Vancouver can be found urban gardens where residents work with the soil to produce vegetables or just beautiful flowers. The gardens have little plots, each uniquely representing the labor of the local gardener. As someone who walks through this city, I really enjoy the energy that comes from these little havens in the concrete jungle.
