Just outside of Orlando on I4 is the Florida Polytechnic University. Honestly, I don’t know a thing about it, yet the architecture of the main building is nothing short of amazing. I managed to stop over on one recent trip and capture a few images. This is a study in symmetry and lines. I think if I was a student I would feel right at home here.
Battery Park Afternoon

A Friday afternoon scene near Battery Park in lower Manhattan. I was in NYC to take photos and only a few minutes before was over at the South Side Sea Port. My friend mentioned that the sun was going down and so we quickly made haste to this side of the island facing west. As it was the end of the week, most people were out relaxing and sitting at outdoor cafes. This, and a dozen other reasons, is why New York is one of my favorite cities.
Coquina Beach Stragglers
It always amazes me to see people leaving when I show up at the beach before sunset. To my way of thinking the best is yet to come, yet to scores of others it’s time to load up the car and leave. I guess that’s understandable especially if you have small kids or commitments. After the exodus there are two types of people left, folks like me who came for the sunset and, the rest of the beach stragglers that will not leave until they’ve seen the final act. In the end I suppose all that matters is that we all had fun and got what we came for.
Birdhouse and Moonlight
On the grounds of a hotel in Sedona I captured this bird house by the light of the moon. It was kind of a mystical setting as I walked along pathway at night. At one point I looked up and saw what I thought was a dog, but turned out to be a wild pig walking my way. Apparently they are well known in the area and a few nights later I saw several crossing a road. Maybe a little bird was sleeping here as I took this. Birds, pigs and a full moon, mystical indeed.
Board Park at Sunrise
Bradenton Riverwalk board park at sunrise. Sunrise is the only time I’ve seen this place deserted. This park attracts crowds from all over and quite frankly I’ve never stepped foot on it. But since there was no one here I took the opportunity to take a few photos. Sure enough, before I was done the first boarder showed up; and then another and another.
Enders Pond
A little north of Hartford is Enders State Forest. If you drive too fast you’ll miss the parking lot at the side of the road, I had to break quickly. Down a little trail is a series of cascading waterfalls and moss covered rocks. One amazing waterfall after another, a magical place. This garden of Eden is right in the middle of New England. If you like waterfalls, then put this on your list, just be sure not to drive too fast.
Seaplane in Vancouver Harbour
I took this early on a Sunday morning before these seaplanes loaded up with passengers for remote places in inside British Columbia. These are a familiar sight in downtown Vancouver and fun to watch land and takeoff. I have stood here watching the pilots carefully inspect and maintain these aircraft before loading up and heading off into the wild blue yonder.
Pier Before Dawn
The Bridge Street Pier in Bradenton Beach Florida. The bridge is adjacent to the pier and so at this early hour a few early commuters are crossing the bridge on the way to work. I took this about a month back just as the pier re-opened from an extensive renovation. A great place to hang out if you’re ever in the area. And if you do come in the morning there is a restaurant here that opens early so you can sit with your cup of coffee and enjoy the scenery.
After the Rain
The best time to get out and take photos of nature is right after it rains. There are pools and ponds to create reflections and of course everything feels refreshed. I’ve posted other shots from this exact spot but lucky for me the clouds are always different. Clyde Butcher, perhaps Florida’s most well known photographer, said that the clouds are our mountains. It’s true, the clouds here are spectacular and ever changing throughout the seasons. The main thing is to get outside after the rain and you will not be disappointed.
South Street Seaport
If you work on lower Manhattan and live in Brooklyn, chances are you come here to catch a ferry. Such was the case on this Friday afternoon . The waters of these rivers move fast and these boats have a lot of power. It’s amazing to see how they maneuver in and around the traffic from one side to the other. I stood here mesmerized by the scene for a few minutes before grabbing a cab for Battery Park to catch the sunset.
